What unique treatments do we offer?
Neuromodulation is a technique used to target the origins of pain in your nervous system. It stimulates nerves and helps modulate abnormal neural behavior at the origin of the disease process. A weak electrical current or a brief magnetic pulse is applied to specific areas of the brain and spinal cord in an attempt to enhance poorly activated or inhibit abnormally active areas. This results in a reversible effect on the nervous system that translates into improvement of patients’ symptoms. Repeated sessions have an additive effect and can provide pain relief that outlasts by several weeks the actual stimulation session.
One of the major indications of neuromodulation is intractable pain with extensive studies supporting its use. Its efficacy is well established and patients resistant to all other forms of treatment improve significantly. The technique has an excellent safety record. Neuromodulation has been tested in various pain syndromes whether regional such as headaches, localized such as nerve injury, or more generalized such as fibromyalgia.
Transcranial direct current stimulation is a non-invasive, painless brain stimulation treatment that uses very weak electrical currents to stimulate specific areas in the brain. A typical session lasts around 30 minutes & tDCS has the advantage of being painless and safe.
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive procedure that uses brief magnetic pulses to activate nerve cells in the brain. To obtain meaningful and long-lasting effects on the brain, pulses are delivered repetitively, hence the name repetitive TMS or rTMS. A navigation system based on a three-dimensional reconstruction of the patient’s brain MRI is used to precisely target the brain structures of interest.
During an rTMS session, an electromagnetic coil is placed against your scalp. The coil painlessly delivers a series of magnetic pulses to specific areas of your brain. Depending on the type of stimulation, rTMS either activates regions that have decreased activity or inhibits those with abnormally increased activity. A typical session lasts around 30 minutes. rTMS has an excellent safety record. The only common side effects are headache, scalp discomfort at the site of stimulation, tingling, twitching of facial muscles, and lightheadedness.
Insertion of electrodes through the skin under local anesthesia that allows passage of electrical current through the spinal cord, which helps in the relief of chronic pain and pain from failed back surgeries.
A Multidisciplinary approach
Our goal is to strengthen knowledge about pain and pain management at the clinical level, as well as to provide top-quality multidisciplinary pain care to our patients. Having a group of known specialists in their fields, we treat the most challenging cases.
We achieve that through our Specialty Clinics or Services listed below:
Poor post-operative acute pain management can cause significant distress and contribute to several medical complications such as delayed healing, venous clots, and infections among many others. We believe that every patient should receive adequate post-operative pain management extending from the immediate post-surgical period and until pain has completely abated. Our multidisciplinary pain management team will follow you at the hospital and after discharge home and guarantee the best continuity of care and a smooth recovery period.
When classical medical treatment fails, blocking the transmission of pain by specific nerves can provide significant relief. This approach is helpful in treating various forms of pain such as those related to disc disease, pinched nerves, and joint pain. Our pain specialists are experts in targeting the appropriate nerves and injecting local drugs to decrease alleviate your symptoms.
Also in patients with joint pain, like shoulder knee and elbow arthritic pain, an expert team will evaluate these patients and prescribe the effective plan for conservative treatment, or provide them with intra-articular injections for pain relief and treatment.
