Job Summary & Scope:

The job of a cardiovascular technologist is to perform diagnostic exams to obtain sufficient and valid data then perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to treat cardiac disease. While Cardiovascular Technologists do not diagnose patients by themselves, they assist physicians in doing so. The scope of practice is based on a competency framework that includes technical and behavioral competencies.

Cardiovascular Technologist must demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology, and must maintain a high degree of accuracy in imaging positioning, exposure technique and image acquisition with knowledge of radiation protection and safety.

Essential Job Functions & Key responsibilities:

The responsibilities of cardiovascular technologist include, but not limited to:

  1. Prepare patients and explain what they will undergo during the procedure and ensure patients’ comfort.
  2. Monitors patients during examinations, ensuring their safety, and following procedures to prevent unnecessary exposure to radiation.
  3. Uses radiation safety measures and protection devices to ensure safety of patients and team members.
  4. Maintains confidentiality and makes every reasonable effort to ensure the security of written, verbal, and electronic patient information.
  5. Organizes the daily procedure schedules for emergencies and monitors Cath Lab supplies.
  6. Performs administrative tasks, such as answering technical questions, helping in scheduling appointments, and offering pre-procedure advice.
  7. Ensures Cardiologic equipment remains in working order and reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
  8. Cleans equipment according to the institutional infection control policies.
  9. Calibrate, set up, and operate imaging equipment.
  10. Assist physician in all diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  11. Perform interventional/therapeutic procedures to obtain sufficient and valid data/treat cardiac disease while maintaining maximal patient safety and comfort.
  12. Provide a summary of findings to the physician to aid in diagnosis and treatment.
  13. Data measurement, acquisition, and storage/archiving of images
  14. Documentation of physiological readings, technical troubleshooting, and monitoring changes
  15. Obtain and check IV / arterial access under medical supervision.
  16. Remove arterial sheath and apply compressive dressing.

Knowledge & Qualifications:

 

Licensure:

  1. License of professional practice at the origin of graduation.
  2. MOPH license from State of Qatar through Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP).
  3. MME license from State of Qatar for Radiation Imaging Practices.

Education:

Minimum requirement: bachelor’s degree in science, or another Health-related field

Preferred requirement: Completion of a National Registry exam by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or equivalent cardiovascular national/ international credential boards

 

Experience:

Minimum requirement: Three (3) years of experience in invasive cardiovascular laboratory post-graduation

Preferred requirement: Five (5) years of experience in invasive cardiovascular laboratory post-graduation

 

Knowledge:

  1. Knowledge of radiologic safety practices, cleanliness and infection control policies, hospital, and local regulations.
  2. Capable of performing all procedures of interventional radiology and cardiac catheterization
  3. Good analytical abilities and technical skills.
  4. Good organizational, time management, and attention to detail.
  5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, empathy, and compassion.
  6. Customer Service oriented skills.
  7. Sensitive to the physical and emotional needs of the patient through good communication.
  8. Ability to meet patients and others needs while following office policies and procedures.
  9. Good attitude towards patients and co-workers with good and flexible teamwork abilities.
  10. Good computer skills in with proficient ability to use a computer and medical systems.

Languages:

Minimum Languages: Arabic & English

Preferred Languages: A good level of spoken English and adequate written English skills

Ms. Wazne received her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the Lebanese American University in 2011 . She completed her Masters degree in Clinical Pharmacy from the Lebanese University. Ms. Wazne has worked at the American University of Beirut Medical Center for more than ten years. Ms. Wazne has given a variety of oral presentations to nurses, and pharmacists on local and national level . She has been certified from Harvard Medical School in Immuno-oncology and Cancer Genomics. She is an active member in the Order of Pharmacists of Lebanon. Her professional interests include medication safety and research.

Scope of practice

Sirine Abou Al Hassan is a US. registered clinical dietitian with extensive experience in nutritional management of chronic and diet-related diseases. Previously, Sirine worked as clinical dietitian specialized in obesity weight management, Child and Maternal Health and Eating Disorders. She graduated from University College London with a masters of science in Clinical Nutrition and Eating Disorders; Following on from a Bachelors of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics-Coordinated Program from the American University of Beirut, both with distinction
