Job Summary & Scope:
Under general supervision, a phlebotomist collects blood by venipuncture and capillary blood collection and transports specimens for laboratory testing.
Essential Job Functions & Key responsibilities:
1. Identifies patients and their personal information according to the Hospital’s policy and procedures.
2. Assesses patient needs, reviews patient history, and determines the reason for specimen collection.
3. Selects gauge needles and prepares veins or fingers for blood drawing.
4. Obtains blood from patients per laboratory order by performing venipuncture or capillary blood collection.
5. Obtains swabs for microbiological analysis as appropriate.
6. Instructs patients about the preanalytical test requirements.
7. Explains tests to patients and answers any questions they might have.

Licensure:
QCHP License- Phlebotomist
Education:
Minimum Education: Bachelor Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
Experience:
2 to 5 years of experience as a Phlebotomist.
